Cruise Ship Drink Packages – Are They Worth It?

All cruise lines will hit you with the hard-sell before and after you board. So should you purchase the all-inclusive drink package or not? It really depends on how much you drink. The good news is that all-inclusive really means all-inclusive! If you like beer, wine, frilly fruity daiquiris, Bloody Marys, Kamikazes, Long Island Iced Teas, top-shelf Margaritas, or a shot of Patron every minute and a half, you can get those at any bar on the ship. And – it’s all top-shelf liquor! I did shots to verify the Patron wasn’t watered down, and it wasn’t. It’s the real deal. You can drink yourself into oblivion and suffer alcohol poisoning if that’s your think. The only thing your drink package does not include is Starbucks coffee on those ships that offer it. If you’re a moderate drinker, meaning a beer or two during the day and one glass of wine with dinner, these packages probably won’t make sense. The drink package usually runs about $350-$400 per person, and is not transferrable (technically). It also includes unlimited soda and flavored water. Also, you won’t get any better service just because you have that magical sticker. You’ll need to wait your turn just like everyone else.

Totally worth it unless you are an alcoholic, Carnival limits you to 15 drinks in a 24 hour period. Good luck making it to 15 in a day if you are just a social drinker as all the drinks are super strong. Tip your waiter a few bucks and those drinks get even stronger. Totally worth the money. Carnival also includes sodas, coffees, shakes, pretty much anything you can drink also on the package and they don’t count toward your 15 alcohol drink limit.

…for us Canadians, the drink pkg. is $57 US…so say $75 Canadian, per person, per day; Panama Canal is 15 day trip…that is 15 x $75 x 2!!! That is over $2000!!

supernumery says:

Do they charge for toilet paper? Or is their a toilet roll package? You are being ripped off, they pay the crews peanuts and make them work 17 hours a day 7 days a week. Do you think that’s acceptable or are you happy to ignore it?

Alison Francis says:

I would have 2-3 alcoholic drinks a day on board is my estimate so i guess the deluxe package is not for me 🙂 Thx

De Vaughn Yarbrough says:

i just smuggle my alcohol on.

Chuck Fresh says:

$350 divided by 6.5 days = about $55 a day. That’s 7 beers, 5 shots, or 6 glasses of wine. Totally worth it for me.

JonO387 says:

I have never been on a cruise. I am shocked you have to pay for this crap on top of paying for the cruise. This is ridiculous.
