I always pick a cabin close to the stairs for the convenience factor. I can easily run up and down; to the gym, the buffet, or just grab coffee.

Best way to avoid booking a bad cabin on a cruise ship: fly instead.

Great tips for all to know. Two, I would add would be (1) know where the potential obstructions are for your view. If you want a view be sure to book a higher up cabin.(2) If the cruise has a lot of tender ports to know where the tender boats are as that can add to the noise if you arrive early.

One tip – not sure if someone has already mentioned this – do not book cabins that have empty spaces next to them on the deck plans. These empty spaces are usually used by the crew for maintenance, etc and can be very noisy. Or they could also be places like the laundry – also noisy.

Don’t want the cabin from hell? Dont book through vacations to go.
